It's primary foundation in scripture is found in. The idea is that the more you give to the church, the more God will bless you. I don't know much about Morris or his church in particular, it it looks like he is working the whole "prosperity doctrine" angle that Joel Osteen and a lot of other filthy rich pastors of megachurches preach. Well, the doctrine of tithing is older than Christianity, so discrediting that as dangerous to a bunch of Christians isn't likely to get you very far. If anything I said requires clarification, please do not hesitate to remark. Discreetly, of course, as directly attacking the man's character or claims would never succeed. My only motivation is to hopefully open a few eyes among my local church (simulcasting with Gateway) to how dangerous this doctrine of tithing is, and how Robert Morris appears to be a bit of a serpent among men. I would like to solicit the opinions and observations of any Redditors that know more about the church with such a large attendance, I imagine some atheists must have infiltrated, eh?

I am extremely concerned about Morris' message and potential corruption. Of course, Morris uses his wealth to support an image of himself as an extremely generous individual (he made the revelation last week that he has given $100 bills anonymously to churchgoers for years). Unsubstantiated, of course, but I strongly suspect the veracity of these claims. Namely, that he owns two mansions, boats with a jet ski, uses church funds for "Jesus" cruises into the Caribbean and shopping trips to Europe.

Basically, God has no choice but to curse his people if they do not give 10% of their gross income, but if you give, the windows of heaven will open upon you.Īnyways, some research on my part has uncovered some serious allegations of misconduct among the (dozens of) pastors, especially with Robert Morris. Robert Morris bases his ministry around the concept of "The Blessed Life", a book that he "wrote" (rampant rumors of a ghostwriter) pertaining to, well, tithing and not much else. Pastored by Robert Morris, this church claims 25,000 weekly attendance and garners over $150 million per year (allegedly) in tithes, the largest sum in America.

As an extremely large church, I am hopeful that Gateway Church from Texas is known to some of you.
